Abstract
The Bar-tailed Godwit breeds in the arctic regions of the Palearctic and Alaska. Five disjunct breeding ranges are currently known (Fig. 85): (1) N Fennoscandia, the north part of the White Sea and the Kanin Peninsula; (2) from Yamal east to the delta of the Anabar River; (3) from the Lena Delta east to the Chaunsk Bay; (4) Anadyr and the south part of the Chukotsk Peninsula; and (5) N and W Alaska. The birds breed in lowland tundra and rolling uplands, both on coastal and inland sites (Hayman et al. 1986). Scattered trees are sometimes tolerated.
