Transient rheometry

  • Chapter
Book cover Rheological Measurement

Abstract

Transient rheometry measures the time dependence of a material’s stress and strain (or strain rate) after a change is imposed on a steady state. For the purposes of the chapter, measurements of the behaviour under sinusoidal or any other continuous periodic deformation are excluded; they are treated in detail in Chapters 1 and 4. And measurements of extensional flow, which are very often transient in nature, are not considered here; they are addressed in Chapters 15 to 18. The primary concern of this chapter is the measurement of transient experiments in shear.
