Abstract
The calculation of the photoionization cross section for processes involving one or more photons entails a satisfactory representation of the electronic continuum. Here, after a brief exposition of a technique developed and tested in recent years, which yields accurate values of the properties pertaining to the continuum by using L 2 basis, two applications of this approach are reported. The first one deals with the continuum spectrum of Mg up to the third ionization threshold, where the two active electrons are allowed to interact with an a priori evaluated polarization potential of the core. The second one is the first application of the method to a Floquet-type Hamiltonian for the case of a hydrogen atom subjected to a rather intense laser field.
