What Students Want from Their Pastoral Care System

  • Chapter
Advances in Medical Education

Summary

In any pastoral care system it is important to try to understand the needs of those one is trying to help. In this paper a system will be described which is used to determine the current experience of the students of Liverpool medical school personal tutor system. The techniques used enable the students themselves to determine the questions which should be asked, and to compare the opinions of different groups of students, and tutors. Students felt that the most important aspect about a pastoral care system was confidentiality, and the least important thing was the gender and professional background of the personal tutor.
