Abstract

On March 26, 1991 in Asunción, Paraguay’s capital city, the Treaty for the Establishment of a Common Market was signed by the Argentine Republic, the Federal Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Paraguay and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. This agreement marks the crowning point of a process that began with the November 1985 Iguazú Declaration, by which Presidents Raul Alfonsín and José Sarney expressed the will of the governments of Argentina and Brazil to accelerate the bilateral integration process.
