Application of Distributed Techniques in a Set of Tools to Climatic Sensor Signal Validation and Data Analysis : DAMOCIA-VAL and DAMOCIA-EXP

Abstract

The main income sources of the province of Almeria (Spain) are related with the crop growing in greenhouses (more than 35,000 hectares). They are low-cost greenhouses of medium yield, normally passive, that takes advantages of favorable outside climatic conditions. In order to improve the quality of the horticultural products, it is necessary to enhance the greenhouse climatic conditions using a better control. The established techniques used in other zones (North and Central Europe) with fully automated greenhouses are not directly applicable in our conditions, because we want to regulate the microclimatic conditions in a more passive way. First, we used a direct digital control with classical control techniques, starting now to apply advanced and more intelligent methods as multivariable, adaptative, model predictive and robust control. These techniques need knowledge about the climate behaviour, via mathematical models of the passive greenhouses. Now, we are involved in the second phase of our ideal control system development, working on a climatic model of the Mediterranean greenhouse.
