Abstract

The space activities that began the era of globalization can make another contribution to the unification of our world. The importance of space activities is understood by many countries, and more and more nations seek benefits from space. The specificity of space activities — especially high cost of access to orbit — promoted international cooperation and helped to create new methods to balance national interests in sensitive areas. Space activities contributed a lot to abandoning the “Cold War” era of global competition and global confrontation in favor of global cooperation. Space activities themselves cannot improve the world political climate or solve global problems, but they can provide a conceptual framework and technical capabilities to approach issues of global importance. The mechanisms of space cooperation that survived the “Cold War” can provide models and strategies for building up the “global village”.
