Abstract

The present work represents an attempt to formulate the petrographical and geochemical characteristics of some younger Pan-African granitoids of Gabal Hamra area and to deduce their tectono-magmatic setting. The study area is located at about 44 Km to the east of the Gulf of Suez, southwestern Sinai, Egypt. The investigated rock types outcropping in the study area constitute mainly syenogranites and subordinately monzogranite and pertaining to Pan-African age.

The petrographical studies resulted in the identification of the secondary uranium mineral, kasolite for the first time in Wadi Ghadir locality of the study area.

Major and trace element analyses for 37 representative samples of the studied grantoids were investigated. The data was petrochemically and geochemically processed applying several parameters and variation diagrams. The studied granitoids generally pertain to phase III of the Egyptian younger granites and match well with the low Cagranites. They are post orogenic granitoids and have been originated from highly differentiated magma of alkaline to calc-alkaline affinity. The trace elements data revealed that the studied granitoids located near the boundary between volcanic arc and syn-collision granitic fields.
