Abstract
Rewarding and organising work are two basic, intrinsically connected, elements that come to the fore in industrial and labour relations. Both have given rise to struggles between capital and labour, employers and workers and their respective collective representatives; both have led to different processes and institutions, including those ensuing from state involvement. In essence, from the very beginning of labour relations, the autonomy of capital or labour has been contested, regarding wages and work-related issues, both internally within companies and outside. These processes are at the very heart of the study of industrial and labour relations, which is the main subject of our contribution.
