Summary

Three projects have just been completed on the development of new coatings for the protection of materials in the space environment. These coatings are based on vacuum deposition technologies. The projects have gone as far as the proof-of-concept stage where the commercial potential for the technology was demonstrated on pilot-scale fabrication facilities in early 1996.

These projects were part of a sub-program to develop supporting technologies for automation and robotics technologies being developed under the Canadian Space Agency’s STEAR Program, the research and development component of the Canadian Space Station Program.
