Abstract
The stability of a circular jet of an inviscid perfectly conductive liquid is investigated. The infinite jet is subject to surface tension, rigid rotation and axial magnetic field for high magnetic Reynolds number. The stability is governed by inertial, capillary and electromagnetic forces. A general analytical solution to the linearised problem is presented. In the first part, the temporal stability is analysed for large values of swirl, Weber and Alfvèn numbers. In the second part, the instability type (convective or absolute) is determined as a function of the different parameters by examining the spatial branch-point singularities of the dispersion relation.
