The Role of the Forest Products in the Formation of Internal Exposure Doses to the Population of Russia after the Chernobyl Accident

  • Chapter
Contaminated Forests

Part of the book series: NATO Science Series ((ASEN2,volume 58))

Abstract

It was shown that radioactive decontamination of mushrooms, berries and game during 11 years after the Chernobyl accident was very slow in contrast to agricultural food products (where natural decontamination took place quickly). Use is made of aggregated radioecological data together with a broad assumption about the consumption of forest products to predict doses that might arise from consumption of such foodstuffs. These predictions are then compared with values derived from whole body measurements.
