Abstract

Big Swamp is an urban wetland located in the city of Bunbury, 200 km south of Perth in Western Australia. Bunbury sits on the western edge of the Swan Coastal Plain, a sediment-filled basin extending over 1,100 km along the coast with an average width of 20 km. European settlement commenced in 1829 and today, due to the area’s favorable climate, soils, water resources, coastal location, and other features, the Swan Coastal Plain hosts an overall population of some 1.5 million people.
