Abstract
Risks, to workers, the public and the environment. frequently encountered in nuclear decommissioning are described. Correlation to nuclear submarine decommissioning work is made. Risks include; exposure to such individual hazards as falls, struck by falling objects, electrical shock, burns, etc.. personal contamination by radioactive materials either in contact or inhaled; exposure to hazardous materials, lead, PCBs, toxic chemicals, asbestos. etc.; and oxygen deficient atmospheres found in tanks and other confined spaces. The importance of mitigation and recommended controls to ensure minimization of the risks are discussed.
