Abstract

The computer simulation of problems in geomechanics places particular demands on a numerical model. On the one hand, the ground, which for all practical purposes can be assumed to be infinite, has to be modelled. On the other hand, the fact that the material soil or rock is also heterogeneous, jointed and exhibits nonlinear behaviour has to be considered.
