Abstract

During recent years the role of local authorities in relation to the environmental policy has been in focus. At the Rio conference in 1992 the importance of local involvement was also mentioned in order to assure a sustainable development. In the Danish environmental legislation this is also emphasized as local authorities are intended to play an important role in the environmental policy and are given the main authority (Miljøministeriet 1991).
