Abstract
In the last few years, a lot of studies have been devoted to the characterisation of the structural, physical and electrochemical properties of LiNiO2, which appears to be like LiCoO2 and LiMn2O4 a promising positive electrode for lithium-ion batteries. The behaviour of LiNiO2 at high potential is not yet well understood. It is well known that good electrochemical performances are obtained for the Li // LixNiO2 system if less than 0.7 Li is deintercalated from the structure. Therefore, an accurate characterisation of the Li // LixNiO2 system was performed at high potential. In this paper, only an overview of the main structural and electrochemical results is made, giving already explanations for some complicated and sometimes apparently contradictory behaviours of LiNiO2.
