Abstract
The extended relational layer is based on the extended relational paradigm, that is, an extension of the relational model that allows the definition of nested relations. Of course, as discussed in Section 2.1, this is not the only way to extend the relational model. Nevertheless, the nested relational model is a natural way to enhance the logical expressiveness while essentially retaining the simplicity and clarity of the relational paradigm.
