Abstract

This contribution deals with the analysis of the long-term dynamic behaviour of nonlinear systems in mechanical engineering under periodic excitation. Typically, the models of these systems are characterized by many degrees of freedom (mdof), whereas the nonlinearities are only connected to a limited number of those degrees of freedom. The key issue in the analysis method is the integration of the finite element technique with numerical tools for the analysis of nonlinear dynamic systems. The developed methodology is applied to two nonlinear systems in mechanical engineering, namely a discontinuous system and a nonlinear rotordynamic system.
