The superposition phase

In all the previous chapters up to now we intentionally avoided the question of the phase of the superposed periodic layers (or functions). Note, in particular, that until now we have only discussed the behaviour of moiré effects when the superposed layers were centered about the origin; and moreover, we only considered rotations and scalings of the superposed layers (i.e., transformations which preserve the origin), but shift operations were excluded.
