Abstract
An attempt was made to produce a topological structure as predicted by Aref and Zawadzki via the reconnection of two elliptical vortex rings moving in the same direction and having a common axis. It is shown that such a reconnection is possible but so unstable that its realization is unrealistic under normal conditions.
