Abstract
Still images extracted from flow visualisations can sometimes convey a strong impression of movement. This feature is particularly evident for spiral dye patterns created by vortex flows and for periodic patterns. The confrontation of such scientific visualisations with artwork shows how artists can take advantage of this visual property for artistic purposes.
