Abstract

The preceding chapters have each focussed on a specific aspect of Ex Situ conservation of plant genetic resources. This chapter attempts to illustrate briefly how the methods discussed in the earlier chapters can be applied to species or groups of species. We have selected nine species or groups of species as exemplars. These nine were chosen both to illustrate the taxonomic breadth of species being conserved today, from major crops to wild species, and also the breadth of the application of conservation techniques that are required to conserve their full range of biological diversity.
