Abstract
Emissions and concentrations of various pollutants have been decreasing over recent decades in developed economies. However, the mechanisms through which emissions have decreased are unclear from the empirical literature that has estimated environmental Kuznets curves. The question is which factors are responsible for the downturn in emissions. What are the driving forces behind decreases in environmental pressure?
