Abstract

Examples of plastic deformation related to dislocation movements in ceramic materials are reported. Specific properties of dislocations and associated microscopic mechanisms in some ceramic materials (Gd3Ga5O12, ß Si3N4, ZrO2, A1N, SiC) that have been investigated at LMP are reviewed in relation with lattice structure and bonding. Mechanical behaviour related to the observed microstructures is discussed and compared to that of metallic and semiconductor materials.
