Taxonomy of Extremophiles

  • Chapter

Abstract

Extremophiles have received ever increasing interest over the last two decades and there has been almost an explosive increase in the international research effort in this field. The only thing that all extremophiles have in common is that they are regarded as some sort of microbial outsiders. They are defined as extremophiles based on the ability to grow optimally under extreme conditions, in which most other organisms are not able to grow.
