Abstract
The structure of the peripheral light-harvesting complex (LH2) of Rhodospirillum (Rs.) molischianum was recently resolved [1]. The structure shows a remarkable organization of the B800 bacteriochlorophylls. We have measured polarized low-intensity one-colour pump-probe traces in the B800 band of Rs. molischianum at 77 K. The excitation/detection wavelength was scanned through the B800 band. The analysis of the data was complemented by an in silico study of the kinetics of the excitation energy transfer in the B800 band. A Förster-type energy transfer was modelled using structural information and the homogenous absorption spectrum of a B800 pigment [2]. This model describes the spectroscopy and the dynamics of the B800 band.
