Fractionation of (Co-) Polymer Blends by Multiple Solvent Gradient Elution

  • Chapter
Integration of Fundamental Polymer Science and Technology—5

Abstract

Polymer blends were fractionated in a precipitation-redissolution process via high performance precipitation liquid chromatography (HPPLC). Following precipitation of the blend in a non-solvent, fractionation was achieved according to solubility by multiple solvent gradient elution with increasing solvent power. Reproducible baseline resolved HPPLC fractionation of commercial poly(2, 6-dimethy1–1, 4-phenylene ether/poly (styrene) (PPE/PS), poly(styrene)/ ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (PS/EPDM) and aromatic poly(estercarbonate)/ polycarbonate (APEC/PC) blends was obtained.
