Abstract
Industry is well aware of the need to ensure quality—it is vital to efficient cost-effective production. Perhaps more importantly, many major purchasers are now demanding proof of a company’s quality record and, as a result, insist that their subcontractors and suppliers operate to a recognised quality management system such as ISO 9000/BS 5750. Examples of such purchasers are British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL), British Gas, British Coal, British Steel, British Telecom, the Ministry of Defence, major motor manufacturers and many well-known companies in the consumer (high street) sector.
