Abstract
Renewable energy sources are capable of providing a significant fraction of Europe’s needs in the 21st century. In particular, bio-energy has the potential to provide the EC with as much energy as the current exploitation of North Sea oil fields (the equivalent of two million barrels of oil per day) or currently installed nuclear power, but without the hazards or without any contribution to the CO2 build-up, and with the advantage of being infinitely renewable.
