Summary

Since the introduction of PTA 25 years ago, a dramatic technical development has taken place which makes PTA a first choice treatment for radiologists, angiologists, and surgeons. There is no doubt about PTA being a locally controlled trauma of very low risk. Besides, medication or surgery invasive techniques offer an additional potential in several areas of vascular diseases. Six years ago, Dotter stated: ‘Transluminal angioplasty is here to stay, at least until something better comes along’.
