The Farnsworth-Munsell 100-hue test in clinical practice

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Documenta Ophthalmologica Proceedings Series ((DOPS,volume 54))

Abstract

435 patients have been examined with the Farnsworth-Munsell (FM) 100-hue test on 1123 visits. The patient sample includes: 93 diabetic cases, 87 maculopathy cases, 47 chloriquine cases, 38 daltonian cases, 38 glaucoma cases, 25 oral contraceptive cases, 30 psychopharmaca cases, 32 cases of dyschromatopsia of unknown origin, 37 cardiovascular disease cases, 8 optic neuritis cases.

I conclude that the FM 100-hue test is useful in diabetics, important in patients on psychopharmaca, and indispensable in maculopathy and optic neuritis, but it is not sensitive enough to monitor chloroquine patients, and it is of no practical value in glaucoma.
