Abstract
Binding isotherms and kinetic measurements associated with the adsorption/desorption of the surfactants sodium hexadecylsulphate (SHS) and sodium decylsulphate(SDeS) onto the neutral polymer poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) are considered. Surfactant ion selective electrodes were used to construct equilibrium binding isotherms from emf measurements. The kinetic data were measured with the pressurejump relaxation technique (for SHS) and also by ultrasonic absorption (for SDeS). Application of the linear phenomenological theory to the binding and kinetic data shows clearly that the desorption rate is proportional to the amount of bound surfactant.
