Opening a Window on the Simulation of a Total Artificial Heart

  • Chapter
Applications of Supercomputers in Engineering II

Abstract

In the design of an artificial heart the simulation is an essential tool in evaluating its possible structural and functional characteristics, as well as in selecting optimal control strategies. Many test runs, each needing heavy computations on supercomputer, are necessary to analyse the performances of the device in different physiological and pathological states.

The visualization of cardiac functions during the simulation is very important in the study of the interactions between the circulatory system and the structural and functional parameters of an artificial heart.
