Dynamic Properties of Layer Reinforced by Two Families of Fibres

  • Chapter
Mechanical Identification of Composites

Abstract

The object of this theoretical investigation is to determine dynamic properties of such a layer which can provide a standard against which we may compare the results of non-destructive evaluation measurements. It is shown that phase velocity of such waves strongly depends on both direction of propagation and angle between two families of fibres.

Approximate expressions for phase velocities have been given for all three fundamental modes. It is shown that the approximate expressions provide solutions that agree very much with the exact solutions which have been obtained from the model with extensible fibres. The advantage of the approximate solution is that it is easily used to obtain the first information about dispersion of waves in such layers.
