Some Experience from the Application of the Iosipescu Shear Test

Abstract

Experience gained using the Iosipescu test for measuring of the static and cyclic shear characteristics of polymer matrix composites are summarized. The stress and strain distributions in the active part of specimen were in the static case determined by means of the reflex photoelasticimetry and time-based photogrammetry respectively. Experimental results were complemented by the theoretical solution applying FEM for two fundamental cases of non mixed boundary conditions. The results of the shear modulus, shear strength and shear fatigue are evaluated on the stress and strain analysis base.
