Abstract

The main purpose of this International Workshop on Gelidium was to bring together experts on the biology, chemistry and applications of species of Gelidium and their derivatives. It was anticipated that such a multidisciplinary approach would result in a comprehensive overview of the present state of our knowledge of this algal group, and equally importantly, it would reveal significant gaps in the scientific and technological information available for these species. This, in turn, would suggest requirements for new developments to advance the biology and utilization of these resources.
