Abstract

A. lipoferum tolerates Dicofol up to 50ppm. Growth and nitrogenase activity are inhibited by higher doses. Our aim was to verify whether Dicofol degradation occurs as a detoxification route in Azospirillum. Analysis with GC-EC and TLC showed that Dicofol residues were accumulated in Azospirillum with low amounts remaining in the medium. Since degradation occured more intensively at oxidation conditions in the absence of cells, we suggest that uptake by Azospirillum protected Dicofol against degradation.
