Abstract

The category of attitude is among the basic concepts of the Husserl’s phenomenology along with intentionality and reduction. However, while the question of reduction engages a good deal of attention in phenomenologists’ considerations, the cognitive state of mind called attitude (Einstellung) is situated as it were beyond the scope of their primary interests. And yet, in order to understand what the practice of “pure phenomenology” consists in, one should — in accord with the thinking of its founder — grasp the essence of the phenomenological attitude in the first place.
