Abstract

The physical properties of stable strange quark matter/quark nuggets are described. Laboratory searches are briefly discussed, but the main emphasis of the review is on the astrophysical consequences of strange matter. In particular on the possible formation and survival of quark nuggets in the cosmological quark-hadron phase transition, where new results regarding boiling of strange matter are mentioned. Also discussed are the rather stringent astrophysical limits, that can be derived on the galactic flux of quark nuggets. Finally it is pointed out, that much of the strange matter-discussion, including the flux-limits, can be generalized to other non-topological solitons carrying baryon number.
