Abstract
In 1965, the Intergovermental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) accepted the offer of the United States to undertake the expansion of its existing Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu to become the headquarters of the International Tsunami Warning System (ITSWS). The IOC also accepted the offer of other Member States to integrate their existing facilities and communications into this International Warning System. At a meeting in Honolulu in 1965, an agreement was reached and IOC established the International Coordination Group for the Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific (ICG/ITSU).
