Ovarian Tumours

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Developments in Oncology ((DION,volume 64))

Abstract

The growth of ovarian cancer under experimental laboratory conditions provides one of the main success stories in human tumour propagation, with numerous reports detailing investigations using biopsy material directly:

  1. (i)

    to clone tumour cells in semi-solid media;

  2. (ii)

    to originate primary monolayer cultures, leading to the establishment of continuous cell lines in vitro; and/or

  3. (iii)

    to establish xenografted tumours in nude mice.
