Common Elements in Amyloidosis

  • Chapter
Amyloid and Amyloidosis 1990

Abstract

During the past 10-15 years a major focus of amyloid research has been the characterization of the amyloid proteins and their precursors. The amyloid peptides and their precursors have now been correlated with the deposits in the various clinical entities associated with amyloid. At least 12-15 such proteins have now been identified. Clearly of importance, this work nevertheless has emphasized the differences which exist between the amyloids.
