Abstract
This paper considers whether the total allowable catch from a fish stock should be set on the basis of constant fishing mortality or be maintained stable over time. These two strategies are evaluated in terms of expected annual profit, under various assumptions about price and cost relations. The case is illustrated by simulation runs based on stylized facts of the Arcto-Norwegian cod stock.
