Abstract
Much of the research in modern generative grammar concerns the dependencies found in the syntax of natural language sentences. These dependencies are of many different kinds: the coreference between pronouns and their antecedents, the thematic relations a set of arguments bears to a verb, and the sharing of features between agreeing elements (say, between subject and predicate) are just three examples. An important class of these dependencies comprises the structures currently known as A′ (read ‘A-bar’) binding; A′ binding is a relation between an antecedent in a non-argument (A′) position and a bound element in argument position.
