Abstract
“When the Inquisitor Remigius looked back, he remembered that in his youth, following solely his emotions and acting against the law, he had saved the children of witches from being burned at the stake. ‘Now these children are damned to eternal agony in hell’, so he reproached himself, ‘because of my short-sighted sentiments’. Have we ever asked ourselves if the step to strictly secular civilization might have similar consequences?”
