Abstract

The majority of cosmic rays are believed to be accelerated at the blast shocks of supernova remnants. This process is theoretically well studied and can account for all galactic cosmic rays with energies below ∼100 TeV. In this talk the acceleration during the first years after the supernova explosion is discussed which may achieve higher maximum energy and maintain for a short period of time high cosmic ray luminosities. Accelerated cosmic rays will interact on the material of the supernova shell and give rise to high energy neutrino and γ-ray signals.
