Prognostic Factors in Anaplastic Astrocytomas after Surgery and Conventional Radiotherapy

  • Chapter
Neuro-Oncology

Part of the book series: Developments in Oncology ((DION,volume 66))

Abstract

A series of 102 anaplastic astrocytomas was reviewed in order to identify the prognostic significance of clinical factors. Age, intracranial hypertension, motor signs, altered consciousness, pre- and postoperative performance status, extent of surgery and radiation therapy were individually correlated with survival. After multivariate analysis, postoperative performance status was the most powerful variable, followed by motor signs and radiation.
