Abstract

A maintenance service always has many tasks to perform and often suffers from staff shortages; further, the most highly developed maintenance methods are expensive and therefore must not be used indiscriminately. Altogether, therefore, the operations should be organized so that the service is provided as efficiently as possible. The ‘ABC’ or ‘Pareto’ analysis is an aid to achieving this; it is based on a classification of failures in terms of costs so as to give an order of priority among the actions to be taken.
