Abstract
It has been known for a long time that the functional activity of brain structures and the blood flow to them are closely and directly related to one another. However, only recently has this relationship been well substantiated. Plausible hypotheses can now be explored concerning changes in one variable on the basis of detectable changes in another, even within small regions of the brain.
